A’Ishah Songstress – Singer Songwriter, Pianist and Music Teacher

A’Ishah Songstress is an indie singer songwriter, pianist, music publisher, piano teacher and author, as well as the founder of ASKM Publishing. She was born and raised in Chester, Pa, a small urban city outside of Philadelphia. She has loved and adored music all of her life with her first musical love being R&B. However, she has a fondness for all genres of music including Hip Hop, Soul, Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Oldies and Classical. She’s a very eclectic artist. A’Ishah has been singing since the age of 9 years old and has been writing songs since the age of 13 years old, which is when she began to study the business side of music.

A’Ishah comes from a musical background having a mother Enid Whitaker that can sing who also has perfect pitch. 2 of her 3 sisters knowing how to sing. Her maternal grandfather, Leroy Scott who was a local singer and her maternal great grandmother, Eloise Scott who played piano. As well as having a handful of gospel singing cousins on her father’s side. A’Ishah’s first musical influence and unorthodox vocal coach was her mother, who never hesitated to correct her if she was off key or sang too loud growing up. Her mother’s love for music and versatile catalog also inspired A’Ishahs taste in music.

The first time A’Ishah performed on stage was at the age of 9 years old for her 5th grade talent show where she sang “One in a million” by Aaliyah and received a standing ovation. From that moment on pursuing a career in music, performing and the arts became her biggest passion. At the age of 15 years old she became a student at the Nelly Burman School of Music in Haverford, Pa where she studied classical voice and piano with vocal coach Tatyana Mykhaylova. A’Ishah is now currently a student of legendary vocal coach and master vocalist Sherry Wilson Butler.

A’Ishah is formerly a member of The Philadelphia Clef Club, while currently a songwriter for the non-profit organization Songs of Love, a branch of the Make a Wish foundation. She’s also a highly sought after music teacher at George’s Music in the Philadelphia area. She’s worked with legendary acts such as The Blue Notes, The Stylistics Revue and more. She now currently collaborates with her creative director Kalah Higginbotham and producer/keyboardist Andre Mack as an indie singer songwriter and recording artist for a variety of musical projects. Her favorite recording studio which she’s been a longtime client of is Lil Drumma Boy recording studio. A legendary, top recording studio in Philadelphia, Pa

A’Ishahs musical influences are her mother Enid Whitaker, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, Tupac Shakur, Janet Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, her vocal coach Sherry Wilson Butler, Prince, Mariah Carey, Stephanie Mills, Marvin Gaye, Motown, Phyllis Hyman, Sade, Beyonce, Destiny’s Child, Aaliyah, Toni Braxton, New Edition, Bobby Brown, TLC, Boyz to Men, Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera.
